Kids Health food review: Snikiddy Snacks

by Grace on May 29th, 2008

More often than not, getting kids to eat healthy snacks is a battleground. There are so many choices in the grocery aisle, but most of them are loaded with useless calories, sugars, preservatives and trans-fat.

snikiddy-chocolate So it was great to find a healthier alternative in Snikiddy Snacks®! Unlike most conventional snacks, the Snikiddy Snacks treats are absolutely free of hydrogenated oils, high-fructose corn syrup, artificial flavors, colors, and preservatives.

The Snikiddy Snacks are organic snacks made from the family recipes of Mary Schulman, one of the founders. According to the website, the ingredients are 100% USDA-certified organic, and in fact the cookies use only Rapadura whole organic cane sugar and whole wheat.

snikiddy-cherry-oaties I tried three products - Organic Cheese Puffs (Grilled Cheese), Chocolate Chippers, and Cherry Oaties, and they were all delicious. Each cookie was small enough and I think were purposely suited for little hands and mouth. The packs also come in just over 100 calories per serving (1 pack=1 serving). The chocolatey taste of the Chocolate Chippers made that my favorite among the three. It actually tasted like one of the more popular brands, only the cookies were smaller and they weren’t too sweet. The Cherry Oaties did away with the traditional oatmeal raisin cookies and instead added cherries. The cookies were a little too dry and crumbly though, and I couldn’t taste the cherry flavor that much. My husband liked this better, but then he’s partial to oatmeal cookies in general. The Cheese Puffs I shared with girls of my friends and the kids loved them. The cheese flavor was mild enough, not too overpowering like other cheese puffs. For someone used to the stronger-tasting varieties, the Cheese Puffs might taste a little on the bland side. However, for the girls who I shared the Puffs with, they just kept on popping more into their mouths and they said they liked them. Plus, the cheesy colors don’t stain the fingers yellow (unlike other varieties), so that’s a good thing.

My review of Snikiddy Snacks in numbers: Overall, I would give the Snikiddy snacks a healthy and delicious food rating of 4/5.
