Hello! I know very little about any of the doctor’s methods. I did read the blurbs on them. I think my husband and I followed a combination of thoughts. Actually, we listened a bit to our doctor and then ourselves. We added cereal to our first son’s evening bedtime and that helped him sleep much better. I never let either of my sons cry too long when going to sleep. They were soothed and checked for any problems and maybe were a little spoiled. Please enter me in your delightful bedding giveaway drawing. Many thanks…..Cindi

Thats an easy question for me. While raising my own kids and now helping to raise my greats and great-greats I followed and am still following the advice of Dr. Betty…which is me. Always worked for me and see no reason to change it or look for another way. But those other thress mentioned all seem fairly reasonable to me.

I drove Myself crazy by listening to everyone but what was best for My Son which was Mom time next to Him Prayer, scratches, laughes, tears, and laughes, talk, and whatever He needs and He is still doing it at 11 and I went to everyone else from 3 to 5 I just should have done what I wanted to do I waited 10 years for this Boy thru infertility and Adoption…and lots of sweat and prayers and tears….I and My Husband know Him best and so do You….listen with YOUR HEART and PRAYERS…..no one else knows YOURS KIDS BUT YOU…

As parents, we’re our own experts, and have to follow our own gut a little more. People have been doing this for millenia. Whatever works for one child might not work for the rest. For my first, the best thing was to let her cry. For the second, we’ll see.

I have one child and I didn’t follow any method. My son was colicky for 3 months so we pretty much did whatever we could to get him to sleep and it varied, sometimes daily. At about 5 months I started keeping his naps more on a schedule and now we can just put him in his crib and he either talks to himself for awhile or goes right to sleep. There’s no parental involvement.

May 22, 2008 at 9:12 pm
I dont know who I follow but I certainly believe in following my instinct and it always told me to heed my babies cries. In the beginning it was feeding which got her to sleep(not good!), then singing helped her sleep and now I read a book, kiss her goodnight and shes in dreamland.

I don’t subscribe to any methods but I probably should… my daughter was a decent sleeper but my son only wants to sleep with me. He’s 10 months and I am exhausted… maybe nice linens could entice him to sleep in his crib…

I always followed the Ferber Method. Dr. Ferbers method works; his method creates an independent aspect about the child/baby. I even reccommended Dr. Ferbers method to my cousin who was pregant. She swears by his method as well. Sure, its a tough choice for parents, however its the most logical way.
