Kids Health Notes give-away: More children’s picture books
It is (still) National Children’s Book Week! Here are three more books that will surely get your child’s imaginations going!
Tales from the Trees stars Happy the Hodag, a mythical animal/monster from northern Wisconsin. A Monster Misunderstanding include now Happy the Hodag and Buddy the Bulldog, who became the best of friends after a monster-size misundertanding. Both books are great for introducing the virtue of respecting others that may not look like you. On a more serious note, you can use the books to talk about bullying and how it can affect children. Written by Jill Kuczmarski, the books are inspired by stories of the hoax/folklore among lumberjacks in Wisconsin.
How the Moon Regained Her Shape is a lavishly illustrated children’s book inspired by native American legends about celestial bodies. It’s about how the moon diminished in beauty when the sun bullied her out of the sky. A comet restores the moon’s brilliance when he showed how creatures on Earth needed her light and beauty. More than just being a storybook, this children’s tale helps children cope with bullies and how parents can be involved.
I have three copies of these books to give-away. Here’s how to join -
- In the comments, list your child’s favorite picture book(s) as a toddler or baby.
- Additional entry will be given to those who link this contest post on their site! You need to include your post URL.
- Eligibility - one entry per person per email daily (so you get more entries if you come back tomorrow, but I need different books each time).
- It’s open to residents of the US only. If you have a blog, do post your URL as well, as I love to visit my readers’ sites and catch a conversation.
Contest ends 12:00 midnight EST on May 23, 2008 (Friday). Three winners will be randomly chosen and announced via blog and email the week after. If a winner does not reply within 3 days, he/she forfeits her winnings and an alternate winner will be chosen.

Our son is 11 months old and since about 7-71/2 months he has LOVED the book “I know my foods” by Leslie Maguire. It was a book we never had heard of and my mother found when he was visiting and send home with him. Sometimes we actually hide it because he will have us read it to him CONSTANTLY!
