Problogger Darren Rowse talks about his mom…
Here in an interview by Nymfa of Career Mothering… Darren tells of his mom’s influence on his life.
What word of encouragement can you give to young moms who are somehow struggling to raise their children?
Darren: Perhaps the best thing that my Mum did for me was to let me make mistakes.
And I totally agree. Our children will grow up to have stronger characters when they learn from their mistakes and ‘boo-boos’. It’s painful, and sometimes there is no undoing the wrong or mistake, but that’s how we all grow.
Last night, our daughter fell from a bar stool, because she won’t listen to her dad telling her to sit properly. No harm done, but it shocked her. We gave her a hug and comforted her, and then an “i-told-you-so” moment. Hopefully she will learn from that. Darren’s interview is a reminder that we can’t always protect our children, no matter what we do. Hopefully we will be there to catch them when they fall. But if not, the second best thing we can teach them is how to pick themselves up and move on.
