Hannah Montana bags have high levels of lead?
It’s in her backpacks, purses and totes.
The Disney show Hannah Montana has become so popular that it’s no surprise to find products and toys with her label and face on them. Unfortunately, they may not be safe for you, claims an independent lab.
The Center for Environmental Health independently tested 28 of Hannah Montana products. Nine were found to have high levels of lead in the paint and vinyl, exceeding either the federal standards of safety or recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics. (click here for the report and a pdf of the products tested)
Disney has denied that their products are contaminated with high lead levels, according to CBSNews inquiry. According to this news, the CPSC will be investigating these claims. I checked the Center Product Safety Commission website and didn’t see any recalls as yet.
Should we toss out our kids’ Hannah Montana bags? Since there is no recall alert as yet, nothing is official. Though I would use caution and maybe put these bags away, for the meantime, until there is official word from CPSC.
